Last Update August 11, 2006:

Hi, So the most recent addition to the site includes images from my one month visit to Wager Bay. Managed to catch some lovely photos between the surveying for polar bears. Wager Bay is the site of one of Canada's newest National Parks, Ukkusiksalik National Park. It is a fabulous place full of history and wildlife for never out of site is a reminder of the people who lived and hunted off this land. Caribou are numerous and bears are plenty. We saw a number of different birds, seals and other mammalia but they rarely allowed time to photograph.

What am I doing in Wager Bay you ask? Since January 2006 I have been living in Edmonton, Alberta and working on a master's degree involving polar bears. Thus I have had the fabulous opportunity to study and observe them in their natural environment. Earlier in May I was involved in sample collection (photo above) in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT. No, we didn't take the cubs home with us! The more recent research was purely observational and thus we rarely got close to the bears. For those that are wondering then why I have some close up photos, these bears visited the cabin and allowed us a brief opportunity to take pictures from the safety of the building.

Enjoy the photos and feel free to contact me if you wish to comment!
